GAL MALAVAŠIČ ŠURCA WINS THE CUP, MAKS TIT KOJZEK FINISHES FOURTH
This year’s BMX race season was long and demanding, filled with new experiences, joy in success, and even a few tears after defeats. That’s what sport is all about - we celebrate victories, learn from losses, and keep getting better and stronger.
The Regional Alpe Adria BMX Race Cup 2025 consisted of 7 venues and 14 races. The series kicked off in May in Maribor, continued in Sopron, Hungary, and just before the summer break featured two home races in Ljubljana. After a short pause, riders met again, on August 16th and 17th, at the traditional events in Mühlen, Austria. September brought the Baierdorf races, followed in October by Gencsapáti and the grand finale in Vösendorf. Besides riders from Slovenia, Austria, and Hungary, competitors from Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany also took part in the series.
Despite having a small number of riders in this discipline, our team participated in all 14 events. Even though we had competitors in only three categories, we still managed to secure 7th place overall as a team.
How did our riders perform in the overall standings?
This year, all 14 races counted toward the regional cup standings, meaning consistency was key. Competitors had to attend as many races as possible and avoid mistakes.
The best overall result came from Gal Malavašič Šurca, who became the overall winner of the Alpe Adria BMX Race Cup in the boys 9–10 years category. Throughout the season, he left very little room for surprises. Gal competed in 12 out of 14 races, winning 10 times, finishing second once, and taking seventh place after a crash in the final at Gencsapáti. On top of winning his age group, he also secured the overall victory in the higher category.
Maks Tit Kojzek started the season strong in the youngest category, earning several wins and podium finishes. During the summer, he faced some health issues but bounced back later in the season, once again showing his strong competitive spirit. He was one of the few riders to compete in all 14 races, a remarkable effort that deserves special recognition. In the end, he finished 4th overall, missing the podium by just 11 points.
The rest of our riders took part in fewer races, some only in domestic events, but that doesn’t make their efforts any less valuable. Every race was an important experience and a great stepping stone toward the next season.
Final results of our riders:
Maks Tit Kojzek (boys -8) - 4th place (14 races)
Gal Malavašič Šurca (boys 9/10) - 1st place (12 races)
Ian Trivunović (boys 9/10) - 14th place (8 races)
Adam Kurnik (boys 9/10) -14th place (2 races)
Eva Pavšič Prezelj (girls 11/12) - 18th place (4 races)
Gregor Kurnik (Cruiser 30+) - 17th place (2 races)
Sincere congratulations to all our riders, and a big thank-you to all the parents for your constant support. For driving the kids to trainings and competitions and helping them gain valuable experience race after race.
*Girls compete in the boys’ categories, with one year deducted from their age.
